Juanito Arcade Mayhem (Review)

Juanito Arcade Mayhem is a 2D retro style arcade shooter developed by Game Ever studios. Think Space Invaders with an art style very reminiscent of Earthworm Jim, and you’d be very close to what this game is.

Each level has a unique yet minor twist inspired by other arcade classics such as Donkey Kong, Tetris, and Breakout. Art style is very reminiscent of games like Earthworm Jim with an updated look. Level designs are simplistic, yet vary enough to give a definitive sense of progression. Juanito Arcade Mayhem also features a nice variety of game modes such as survival and 2 player co-op.

Juanito Arcade Mayhem features 8 zones with 10 levels each. Each zone is inspired by a classic arcade game. The variation in gameplay with each new zone is just enough to pay homage to the original arcade classic without affecting gameplay to a degree where the player has to relearn the game at each stage.

Controls are solid and responsive; I didn’t notice any input lag while using a controller or keyboard.
Hitboxes do not seem to be pixel perfect, I found myself being hit by things that didn’t seem to be close enough to impact the character. This can be compensated for by simply dodging a bit wider, though.

Difficulty scaling does seem to be rather drastic at later stages too. There were a few noticeable difficulty spikes while playing the later levels within several zones.

Juanito Arcade Mayhem, is a very solid arcade style game with a nice variety of levels and game modes.

Turbo controller highly recommended.
