Kayo Dot – Hubardo (Review)

Kayo Dot - Hubardo

As a reviewer, you sometimes you come across an album that’s hard to describe. Hubardo is such an album. This nearly 100 minute long album is Kayo Dot’s sixth full length. To simply refer to them as Experimental could suffice, but it wouldn’t do them justice. There are influences here from almost all metal genres, along with ambient, classical, jazz and more. This is not the kind of album you can really get into during the first time you hear it. The more you listen, the more you hear and the more Kayo Dot drags you into their world. Listening to this album has been one of the strangest musical journeys I’ve been on – though also a very impressive one. Kayo Dot is best heard, not described. Have a listen. Have several listens. You will either not like it at all, or you’ll be dragged into a possibly endless journey where you listen over and over.
